8 Ways to Grow Your Email List

Do you want the good news or bad news first? Ok, we’ll start with the bad news. The bad news is your email list naturally degrades by about 25% every year. Yikes! People switch jobs and get new emails, they abandon an old address, or they simply opt-out of your email communication.

No matter the reason, it’s your job to continue adding fresh contacts to your email marketing campaigns so you can keep your audience moving down the funnel towards conversion, or keep them engaged ongoing after they’ve already purchased.

The good news: There are many ways to continue adding contacts to your list and keep your audience engaged! Here are 8 simple strategies you can implement to grow your email marketing list.

1. Segment Your Email List

Sending more targeted content to segments on your lists based on their marketing personas increases your chance that visitors will subscribe and stay subscribed. 2. Start Blogging

These days it seems like everyone is blogging and while that may be true, it’s for a good reason. No matter your industry, blogging is an easy way to create content that makes it easier for your site to rank higher in search engine results. Getting seen and offering useful content is a great way to add subscribers to your list, and is crucial for positioning yourselves as the expert in your space

3. Host Webinars

With free tools like YouTube Live or Zoom, you can host a webinar for your customers that give them access to helpful tips and tools. These types of events convert really well because livestreams have a high perceived value (compared to something pre-recorded or pre-posted) and you’ll capture emails at registration.

4. Host a Giveaway

People love free stuff, plain and simple. Giveaways are an easy way, with minimal work, to offer your audience a perk for being on the email list. Additionally, you can gain more contacts by asking for their email as a part of the giveaway.

5. Offer a Coupon

This is an effective strategy to use as a pop-up on your landing page. When someone new visits your site and you immediately offer them a discount, most people will enter their email in exchange for that coupon.

6. Add CTA Button On Your Facebook Page

According to HubSpot, “The value in this list-building technique is in the destination: Link your Facebook page's CTA button to a landing page that requires an email address for access to a special resource.”

7. Collect Emails at Checkout

Most eCommerce platforms allow you to easily collect emails at checkout. However, over 30% of businesses experience cart abandonment because they require customers to create an account. So, simply asking for an email address for order confirmation is best practice.

8. Create a Referral Program

Customers you already have are a great marketing tool. Over 75% of people are more likely to purchase a new product because they heard about it from a friend or family member. Referral marketing is one of the most trusted sources of information. Incentives encourage people to refer your brand to others, and you can leverage that by building a strategy that offers rewards, discounts, coupons, or bonus points in your loyalty program.
